David Dalgleish

I am currently in my second year at Edinburgh University, studying for the BA in Community Education. Starting off my studies with the HNC Working with Communities at Jewel & Esk College, my previous placements included Adult Literacy and Numeracy in East Lothian, and a spell at Whitecraig Community Centre. Coming to Bridges Project is my first (long overdue) experience of working with young people.

Placement at Bridges has definitely proved to be the right step for me. The staff are really supportive and although I like to contribute and to be of use, the main focus for everyone has been how they can help me to learn and to develop. Working with the young people at Bridges is proving to be a great experience also – I do hope to get around all the group activities that are on by the time I leave in the summer, but I think that’ll be a bit of a challenge! I am doing my HNC Working with Communities and have been here on placement since October 2009.  I am spending my time working in the Group Work Programme and I’m also helping a young person to self travel.  All the staff and young people are great.  I have had a lot of support since I started and am receiving support which is helping me a lot with my course. So far I’m having a great time and have learned a lot in the short time I have been here. (18th December 2009).

I am an HNC Social Care student who has been here on a placement since September 2008.  I have divided my time between the Group Work Programme, run by the Youth Development Worker, and one-to-one work with young people.  All the staff and young people have been really supportive, which has helped me a lot and I’ve had a great time here.  (25th May 2009)
