Battle Re-enactment
We were asked by The Ranger Service at Holyrood Park to take part in a battle re-enactment between the Angles (the English)
and the Picts (the Scottish) invading a ‘Gododdin hill fort’; Arthur’s Seat. This involved us dressing up as the Angles and hiding out near the summit of the hill fort and surprising a group of school children who were there on a school trip. A ‘battle’ then followed using beanbags and sponge balls much to the school children’s surprise! From the pictures below, you can see it was a great day out and about in the fresh air and fun was had by all!
Motorcycle Project
We had the chance to do motorcycle training and riding off road with the Bridge Centre in Haddington last year.
After getting kitted out we tried out the ‘rolling road’ which gives you a good feel of what riding a bike is like and what the gears, clutch and breaks feel like. Then it was off to the countryside to a field where we got the chance to ride off road around a track until everyone was managing to get round and control the bike at the same time.
If you click on this link for Journey to Excellence you can see that it is great fun and makes you feel pretty good when you can get the bike round the track without coming off! Keep your eye out for any courses we might being in the future with the Motorcycle Project!
Completion of John Muir Award
Bridges Project have teamed up with Historic Scotland and Rosie Wylie of Holyrood Park’s Ranger Service to provide young people with the opportunity to attain a John Muir Award. Young people learn about wildlife, history and geology by discovering, exploring and conserving local wild places. The young people then share what they have learned.
